Stuffy Neighborhood Woes
This neighborhood wasn’t the most kid friendly place. It was rigid and full of
rules made up by the stuffy block committee.
No walking on the grass.
No loud music.
No toys allowed on the front of the property.
No playing in the street.
No bicycles on the sidewalks.
No basketball hoops at all.
What kind of life was this for a kid? We tried to play without violating the
rules, but it seemed every time we developed a new game or found a place to
play, the block committee made a rule against it.
Then we got a new neighbor. He was the coolest. He didn’t care about the rules.
He installed a basketball hoop and let all of us kids come over to play. He
fought the block committee when they tried to get him to remove it and he won.
He was our hero and our saving grace.
