Summer Vacation
The summer between my eighth grade year and my freshman year was one of the best
summers of my life. I remember it like it was yesterday. I had spent my whole
eighth grade year being teased about my growth spurt. Somehow during the school
year I went from a shrimp of 4’11” to a giant at 5’10”. Most of the other girls
my age were no taller than 5’5”. I was so happy when school was over.
That summer, I started playing basketball. At the beginning of summer I was
really bad. I had no coordination and I fell more than I made baskets. About
three weeks into vacation a new kid moved in next door. He was tall like me, too
and we were both going to be freshman.
He knew a lot about basketball and he taught me how to play. By the end of
summer I was a great basketball player and I had made a new friend. When I went
back to school I tried out for the basketball team and soon became a star
player. Go ahead. Tease me for being tall.
