Family Game

There we all were in the driveway. The blacktop was reflecting the hot sun onto our faces and we were all starting to get a little red. Everyone was here. Mom, Dad, Brian, Me, Chelsea and even the littlest member of our family, Todd.

Brian threw the ball hard. It slapped my hands when I caught it and they stung a bit. I brushed it off. If he wants to play hard then I’ll give him hard. I made my way down towards the hoop. Mom was blocking me on the right and Chelsea had me on the left. Dad was coming in at Chelsea and I was a little worried she couldn’t hold him off. I was more worried about Mom being able to keep Brian at bay. I put my trust in them, though. I made my way down the driveway, determined.

Just as I was about to shoot, under my legs came a small red blur. It was Todd. He stole the ball right from me and threw it to Dad who then proceeded to make the game winning basket. Watching those guys celebrate was horrible. I always hated it when they won. The next week would be horrible. Us girls were stuck doing chores and listening to them brag. It was not right. We’ll get them next weekend, though. They can’t win three in a row, can they?
